What It’s Like to be Threatened by Yogi Bhajan’s Goons

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE THREATENED BY YOGI BHAJAN’S GOONS
GurBir Singh

I know, first hand, how real some of these threats were. I trained with a small group of armed 3HO Militia. I trained with martial arts masters. I studied Shotokun Karate in Hawaii with Sensei Kenneth Funakoshi. I trained in Lee Jun Fan, Kali, Escrima, and Arnis in Culver City, California, and I also studied knife fighting. A small, hand-picked group of us studied tactical combat small arms fighting skills at a desert training facility near Lancaster, CA.

For two years I was part of a small security detail whose sole purpose was to provide armed protection to Yogi Bhajan wherever he went while he was in Los Angeles at the International Headquarters of his organization.

Now what does that tell you? There were lots of threats on his life. Many of his classes were covered with armed riflemen on rooftops, and always two armed Sikhs at his side and one in the back. Everyone was in radio contact. On one occasion we had the privilege to coordinate our security with that of the Secret Service. The compound where Yogi Bhajan lived had an elaborate alarm system with tall walls lined with razor sharp Constantine wire, the kind used at maximum-security prisons.
